Lambs Turn to FA Cup Action with Macclesfield the Visitors

Fri 11 Oct 2024 - 6:07PM

We host Macclesfield FC in the fourth round qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

Andy Peaks’ side will be looking to advance into the first round since the 2013-14 season, where the Lambs defeated Cheltenham Town by one goal to nil, before losing to Bristol City in the second round 2-1.

Tamworth will be going into this game after winning three out of their last five games, defeating Gateshead on Tuesday night 2-1. Peaks made three changes to the side that lost to FC Halifax Town the previous Saturday, as Kyle Finn returned from injury to start in place of Tom Mcglinchey, Ben Milnes’ injury kept him out from participating meaning that Tom Tonks came into centre midfield and Rico Browne made his debut for the club at right back, allowing Jordan Cullinane-Liburd to move back into centre back.

The Lambs took the lead inside 24 minutes, as Dan Creaney pulled the ball back to the edge of the box to Nathan Tshikuna, who side footed it into the roof of the net for his 4th of the season. Both sides created many more chances throughout the half, but neither side could put the ball into the net meaning Tamworth went into the break ahead. It took until the 73rd minute for the next goal, as Kyle Finn excellently delivered a cross on the volley towards Creaney, who brilliantly nodded the ball past Moss to double his sides advantage. Creaney’s goal meant that he had scored in each of his last four appearances. The Heed pulled a goal back through Callum Whelan in the 95th minute but Tamworth held on to climb up the table into 14th position.

In last year’s FA Cup campaign the Lambs lost 1 - 0 away at Curzon Ashton, so Andy Peaks will be hoping his side can go one better this time round.

For the Slikmen, they currently sit in pole position in the Northern Premier League and reached this stage of the competition with wins against Tadcaster Albion, South Shields, and Witton Albion.
