Tamworth vs Gateshead Preview
We welcome Gateshead to the comaparethebuild Community Stadium for this National League fixture on Tuesday evening and it promises to be our toughest test in a while. (KO 7:45pm).
Andy Peaks’ side are coming off back-to-back defeats, after losing by three goals to two on Saturday away at FC Halifax Town.
The Lambs were two goals to the good at half time following a strong first half display. Haydn Hollis scored his first goal for the club inside four minutes to give Tamworth the early lead. 32 minutes in, Dan Creaney doubled Tamworth’s lead and grabbed his third in three games, smashing the ball past Sam Johnson in net.
FC Halifax Town came out the blocks for the second half, creating many chances and having most of the possession. The Shaymen eventually pulled one back when substitute Jamie Cooke made an instant impact setting up Billy Waters at the back post for a tap-in. Cooke was involved once again, as this time his shot on the edge of the box was deflected past Singh to draw the game level. It took until the 87th minute for Halifax to find a winner and complete an incredible comeback as Scott High excellently beat his defender, cut onto his right foot, and powered the ball home into the top left corner past Singh.
Gateshead have won their last three games, recently beating Wealdstone by one goal to nil. 21-year-old Jovan Malcolm grabbed the winner and his second of the season in the 73rd minute of the game. The Heed have won eight of their 12 fixtures so far this season, although they lost manager Rob Elliot to League One Crawley Town on the October 1st alongside the rest of his coaching staff. Gateshead added experienced midfielder Jacob Butterfield to their side over the summer, a player that has already made an impact at the club, having racked up over 300 appearances in the Championship across spells with many clubs, before recently playing for Scunthorpe United the past two years, a team that competed with the Lambs for most of last season.
We look forward to hosting Gateshead and hopefully Andy Peaks’ team can grab a win and bounce back from consecutive defeats.
