Barnet vs Tamworth Match Report
Tamworth recorded their biggest defeat in 34 years, as they were beaten 7-0 away at Barnet on Saturday. The loss was the Lambs 3 rd of the season, and it sees them move into the relegation zone for the first time.
Peaks made no changes to the side that won 3-2 against Aldershot last Monday. Barnet were in control from the first minute, and it took just 7 minutes when Zak Brunt attacked down the left-hand side, beat the Tamworth defender with some fast feet and slotted the ball into the far corner to put the Bees ahead. Ryan Glover doubled Barnet’s lead 20 minutes later, as his shot was deflected past Singh in goal to make it 2-0.
In the 32 nd minute, Brunt turned home his second of the game, as a Barnet corner was cleared by the Tamworth defence, only as far as Brunt who poked the ball into the top corner to put Barnet three goals ahead and in complete control of the tie. Tamworth created their best chance of the game just before half time when Kyle Finn’s corner found Chris Wreh, who’s header rebounded back off the post and was eventually cleared by the Barnet defenders.
The Bees started the second half strongly as they were given an early penalty, due to a mistimed tackle by Jamie Willets inside the box. Brunt grabbed his hat trick by sending Jas Singh the wrong way and in doing so claimed the match ball and put Barnet 4-0 up. 60 minutes in, Dean Brennan’s side made it 5-0 when substitute Mark Shelton converted after a brilliant spell of build-up play. Shortly after, Callum Stead got in on the act to grab Barnet’s sixth goal of the game, as he quickly counterattacked following a turnover in possession, and tucked the ball away past Singh.
76 minutes in and Barnet once more attacked down the left, as Idris Kanu drove the ball low into the box, which Harry Chapman ran onto and smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 7-0.
The result was Tamworth’s biggest loss since 1990, when they lost 7-0 to Nuneaton Borough away.
Andy Peaks’ side will look to change things around drastically, as they are on the road for consecutive matches, this time travelling to the south coast to take on Eastleigh this Saturday.
