Welcome and Preview - Tamworth v Hartlepool United

Tue 20 Aug, KO 7.45

By Zach Thomas

A big welcome to the Compare the Build Stadium this evening for our second home league fixture of the season as we host Hartlepool United at 19:45, who we would like to extend our welcome to their supporters, players, and officials.

Hartlepool United, founded in 1908, are situated in the Northeast of England in County Durham. The Monkey Hangers, famously supported by former Gillette Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling, are currently unbeaten in the league so far this season under the management of Darren Sarll, as they drew last time out 0-0 at home to Southend United on Saturday. The squad featured new signing Kieron Freeman, who came off the bench with six minutes to play at The Prestige Group Stadium. The experienced right back signed for Darren Sarll’s side on Friday and will be looking to make his first start in a Hartlepool shirt tonight. The former Welsh international signed after a brief short spell at Oldham Athletic last season. Freeman has an impressive 300 appearances across his career, playing in all of England’s top five divisions for the likes of Sheffield United, Derby County, Notts County and Portsmouth over his outstanding thirteen-year stint.

Pools currently sit in 10 th position on four points, eight places above Tamworth who only sit on a singular point after two games. The Lambs are looking to improve on our previous game, due to losing by two goals to nil on Saturday against York City at the LNER Community Stadium. Andy Peaks’ side conceded two goals in quick succession, as Ollie Pearce converted the first from the penalty spot, before Billy Chadwick was played in behind the Tamworth defence and lifted the ball over Jas Singh to give the Minstermen the win.

The only time these two sides have met was in the 2005-2006 FA Cup campaign, where approximately 3700 watched Tamworth come out on top 2-1 at Victoria Park in the second round. Jake Edwards and Matt Redmile netted for the Lambs on 3 December 2005, before Chris Llewellyn pulled one back for the Monkey Hangers from the penalty spot.

We look forward to hosting Hartlepool United tonight (KO 7.45) and hope we can gain our first win of the season and try and climb up the National League table.
