Kick Off Against Sutton United on Saturday

Wed 7 Aug 2024 - 09:05AM

Tamworth v Sutton United, Saturday 10 August, KO 3.00pm

Vanarama National league

The wait is over and Tamworth’s place in the National league has been restored after a 10 years break. The last 2 seasons has seen a lot of success, not only in 2 Championship titles, bit also in crowd increases - a staggering 87% last year over the previous season.

Andy Peaks has been slightly frustrated with pre-season games - injuries, players playing in the wrong positions just to get minutes, and some cancellations, so a hastily arrange game behind closed doors on Tuesday evening saw the Lambs get some more important minutes under their belts in a 2 - 2 draw against Coventry City U23s.

On Saturday we welcome Sutton United, who themselves have seen a lot of success in recent years, but last season saw them succumb to relegation from League 2 back to the National League. Manager Steve Morrison, himself a successful striker with Stevenage Borough, Millwall, Norwich City, Leeds United, and Wales, has spent the summer rebuilding his squad and they will be looking for an immediate bounce back to the EFL. “We have had them watched a couple of times and we know they are going to be strong,” Andy Peaks told the website. “It will be a really good test for the first game of the season, as was Scunthorpe last season, “Steve Morrison is a good manager and we know it is going to be a tough game, They will have good resources and will be looking to kick on and get back to the Football League.”

We are expecting a large crowd for our first game back in the league and encourage supporters to arrive early and purchase tickets in advance to save time queuing at the ticket office. You can get you ticket HERE

Please be aware of our Supporters Code of Conduct, and those 17 years of age and under must purchase tickets in advance or be accompanied by an adult if buying on the day.
