Telford vs Tamworth Preview
By Zach Thomas
This Saturday sees the Lambs make the hour-long trip across the West Midlands to take on AFC Telford United in our final pre-season fixture.
The Shropshire side, currently managed by Kevin Wilkin, play their football in the Southern League Premier Division Central, two tiers below the Lambs. The Bucks finished second in the table last season, only three points behind Champions Needham Market. The Lillywhites narrowly missed out on promotion in the playoffs, losing by one goal to nil against Leamington.
Kevin Wilkin’s squad includes 37-year-old Kyle Storer, who played for the Lambs between 2004 and 2007, making 83 appearances in a Tamworth shirt before moving to Hinckley United. The Telford side also includes ex-Lambs, Orrin Pendley, Matty Stenson and Dior Angus. Previously, Telford drew one all against League 1 Shrewsbury Town in a local derby, thanks to a late goal from Remi Walker.
The Lambs, however, were involved in a 10-goal thriller last time out. Andy Peaks’ side drew five all against National League North side Rushall Olympic, thanks to three late goals in the final 10 minutes, including one in the 90th minute from defender, Jamie Willets.
Tamworth will be looking to gain extra confidence from this final game before moving into our first league fixture on Saturday 10 August, when we host Sutton United.
