We Catch Up With Alex Howell, Strength and Conditioning Coach

Fri 26 Jul 2024 - 1:49PM

The strength, fitness and conditioning of all age groups is predominant here at Tamworth Football Club and due to the Lambs achieving promotion to the National League for the first time in 10 years, progressing as a club is ideal to continue the improvements on the football pitch.

Therefore, the club have took this opportunity to appoint Alex Howell as Head of Strength and Conditioning. We recently caught up with him to discuss what his role will entail at the Lambs.

Alex will be using his time in Staffordshire working with the First Team as well as our scholarship programme, hoping to implement his own ideas and ways to improve our medical department. He will be working with the players before, during and after training sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays aswell as on matchdays to ensure that they are conditioned to the best of their ability.

Alex stated that his work will hopefully match the energetic and high intensity play style of our current manager, Andy Peaks. He has already started introducing pre-season programmes to the squad to make certain that they will be 100% for the upcoming season.

“I’ve started to build more foundations off the pitch,” he also commented. “I’ve started to put more nutritional advice to the lads and i’ve started to focus more on recovery, especially with the amount of travelling we will be doing this season.”

Previously, Alex studied at Wolverhampton University, graduating with a Sports Science degree back in 2022. After, he joined fellow West Midlands side Kidderminster Harriers, under the management of former Premier League boss, Phil Brown. Despite the season ending in relegation for Kidderminster, Alex stated that “the medical department was a success at the club”, something that we would like to be able to replicate here at Tamworth.

We would like to wish Alex a warm welcome to the club, and we’re sure everyone is looking forward to working alongside him as the club progresses up the National League.
