Kenny Digie Adds Competition at the Back

The past 2 seasons has seen Kenny playing in the National lLeague North for clubs that made it through to the play-offs - GloucesterCity and then Alfreton. Despite the disappointment of losing, he still has his dream of playing in the National League with the Lambs. How did the move come about? “My agent told me that Andy Peaks was very interested in signing me and it got sorted very quickly which was really pleasing. From the games we played against each other I knew that both teams played a similar style and that Tamworth had a fantastic team spirit. The way everyone was sticking up for each other and how tight the group was when they went for food after the game really stood out to me. That team spirit can get you an extra 20 points in a season. The boys at the club say that the boss is a great man to play for and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Kenny started his career at the Kidderminster Harriers Academy and signed a professional contract with them, going on to make a number of appearances in the National League. He spent a few spells out on loan and then moved to Guiseley. Following this he played at Hereford, Altrincham, Farsley and Gloucester City before his move to Alfreton.

Kenny already knows some of the Tamworth players having played with Jas Singh at Kidderminster and then Kyle Finn when he was at Hereford.

How does he see the difference between the National League North and the National League “The step up to the National League is more physical than the National League North and obviously most teams are full time, however, that should not stop Tamworth from doing well. I am really looking forward to surprising a number of teams. Looking at what the manager has done with back to back promotions people would be mad to write Tamworth off.”

What was it that Peaksy saw in Kenny that made him go after him “He is a typical old fashioned centre half, I would even go as far as saying a typical Andy Peaks Centre Half! He became available, fits the way we play and I was keen to get him in. He is mobile, scores goals and plays the ball well on the floor, and will add competition for the Centre Back roles. In addition he is good in both boxes and a really nice kid who will fit in the group well. I am really delighted to have got him”
