Tom McGlinchey is a Lamb
We are delighted to welcome Tom McGlinchey to the club after he signed from Coalville Town. “He has been a thorn in my side since I was at Diamonds and I am delighted to sign him” said a very very pleased Andy Peaks!
Tom spent 10 years in the Leicester City Academy system and after his release developed his career at Hinckley United before spells at Kirby Muxloe and then the newly formed Hinckley Leicester Road. He moved to Coalville Town in July 2017 and has made over 300 appearances for the Ravens, being one of their stand out players.
The move to Tamworth was sealed a day before the news broke about Coalville withdrawing their first team from the Southern League. “It was a real shock for everyone to be honest. I had 7 great years there and really enjoyed my time.I hope they can get something sorted and get back on their feet as soon as possible.”
So why Tamworth? “I think the time was right for a change for me, and the opportunity to play in the National League was too hard to turn down. The team has a lot of continuity and back to back promotions is an amazing achievement. For me too, I think there are a lot of similarities between the manager I played most of my time under at Coalville (Adam Stevens) and Andy Peaks, which will help my transition. The lads at Tamworth are all good guys to be around and I also had a good understanding playing with Dan Creaney during my first couple of seasons at Coalville, so I hope we can replicate that partnership.”
Tom spends his time studying for his PHd and lecturing at Nottingham Trent University in the Sports Science Department, However, the challenge of testing himself in the National League is something that excites him too. “It's an unbelievable opportunity. I have always been ambitious and to play at the highest level you can in the National league is something I could not turn down and I can’t wait to get going.”
For Andy Peaks he is delighted to get his man. “He has always scored goals against me and I have tried to get him before but it has never worked out. I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he was really keen to step up to the level. He is an excellent footballer and can play left or right or as a 10. He will be a great addition to the squad.
Welcome Tom!
