Miracle is Raring to Go
New signing 23 years old Miracle Okafor has become a scoring sensation over the past 2 seasons, netting 27 goals for Sporting Khalsa in the Northern Premier League, and then 21 for Halesowen Town in the Southern League Premier Central. So why choose Tamworth for his next move? “I have had a lot of offers from clubs in National League and the National League North, but knowing what Tamworth have done over the past 2 seasons, together with the quality of the Manger Andy Peaks, to be honest it was a no brainer. I know some of the lads at Tamworth and they have told me what a great team spirit there is in the camp, and I have played with Jamie Willets before who has been messaging me.”
As a Brummie he had an interesting start to his football career. “I was offered a trial at Scunthopre United and went on to have a 2 years spell in their U21 Academy set up. When I was released I came back to Birmingham and had spells at Alvechurch, Guiseley, Stourbridge and then Khalsa, where the manager was really supportive and I had a great season scoring 27 goals. This helped me get a move to Halesowen where I ended up being top scorer again. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride over the past couple of seasons and I am enjoying my football.”
It is a big step up to go from level 3 to 1, so how does Miracle see the gap? “It’s definitely a big step up, but I have been watching a lot of National League Football over the past season and the quality of the level makes it like a league 3. There are a lot of big teams in the league like Oldham and Southend, but as a player I have to back myself and believe that I am capable. I am going to work harder than I have ever worked before to achieve even better form than I did last season.”
Manager Andy Peaks has wanted to sign Miracle for quite a while and believes he has got a quality signing. “We have known about Miracle for a couple of seasons and have tried to sign him before but it didn’t happen. I am delighted to get him now and he is a real jewel to be honest. We are fortunate to get him and he has turned down bigger clubs and better offers to come to us. He is young, strong, enthusiastic and has a good future ahead of him. I am really looking forward to working with him. It is a major coup for us to get a player like Miracle.
