Tamworth v Warrington Town, Saturday 6 April, KO 3.00pm
Vanarama National league North
We welcome Warrington Town to the Lamb on Saturday for what will be a massive game in Tamworth’s season. The mathematics are now simple - 1 point from the final 3 games will hand the Championship title to the Lambs, and it would be great to complete the task on Saturday in front of our home supporters. We know that Warrington will provide tough opposition and could still sneak into the play offs themselves if results go in their favour. They will be keen to bounce back from a 2-1 home defeat to Darlington on Easter Monday
It promises to be another massive turnout at the Lamb with our attendance record at step 2 looking set to be beaten again.
The curse of needing 1 point to confirm the title struck at Brackley Town, just as it did for Chesterfield in the National League who had travelled to FC Halifax recently and lost 4-2. And just like Chesterfield, we hope to return to home soil and win the title in style against Warrington.
It was not the performance or result we wanted and Andy Peaks was pretty honest in his post match interview when he said, “We didn't turn up today. They scored early on and we lost a lot of belief. We were disjointed, we didn’t win enough first or second balls, we weren’t good enough when we had the ball and we didn’t defend well. We had a lot of people travel to watch us today and they deserve a lot better than that. However, we put a line under it, train hard and prepare well for the visit of Warrington, where we hope we can claim the title in front of a large crowd at the Lamb. We have always bounced back before and we will again on Saturday.”
It was only last year that Tamworth travelled to St Ives and lost 2- 0, but we know what happened following that - we won the 4 remaining games to claim the title!
Jordan Cullinane Liburd was sent off on Monday for picking up 2 yellow cards. He will be available to play against Warrington Town but will have to sit out the final 2 games as it was his second sending off of the season. Andy Peaks will be heartened by Jamie Willets. Liam Dolman and Callum Cockerill Mollett all making good progress, but the game against Warrington may come too soon for them. Dempsey Arlott-John is still feeling sore from his injury picked up a few weeks ago.
