Good Friday Action at the Compare the Build Community Stadium
Wed 27 Mar 2024 - 06:34AM
Tamworth v Bishop's Stortford FC, Friday 29 March, KO 3.00pm
Vanarama National League North
Following Scunthorpe United's defeat at Spennymoor Town on Tuesday evening, the calculators are out working out how many points we need to claim the title. The simple answer is that it is now 5 points from the remaining 5 games. However, can the title be won on Friday? .... and the answer is yes. IF Tamworth win, and both Scunthorpe and Chorley fail to win their games, then the Lambs will be crowned champions.
On Good Friday (KO 3,00pm), we welcome already relegated Bishop’s Stortford FC to the Compare the Build Community Stadium and nothing less than 3 points will be the order of the day. With the shackles of a relegation battle over, the Blues will be able to play without any pressure, and as we discovered against Rushden and Diamonds last season, these games are not easy. It took a last minute Ty Deacon goal in that game to gain a share of the spoils and proved to be an important point in our title ambitions. Manager Andy Peaks speaking on Wednesday evening said; "I am under no illusion that playing an already relegated team will be difficult as we found out against Rushden last season. The players will be made fully aware of what I expect so that we can claim another 3 points on Friday before we go to Brackley Town on Monday. I have added Nat Knight-Percival to the squad who joins us on loan from Kidderminster until the end of the season. I looked at it last week and with Liam Dolman going off injured and Jamie Willets already out for another couple of weeks we were looking thin in this department. Add to the mix Callum Cockerill Mollett is still feeling sore, that makes 3 big players all out when we need to have good cover at the back. I looked at bringing in a young player from a league club, but just felt we needed experience and Nat will offer us this. He has played a lot of Football League games and was part of the Kidderminster Harriers team that won promotion to the National League this time last year."
A large crowd is expected at the Lamb on Friday and we do encourage you to purchase your ticket in advance and arrive early.
