Tamworth v Chester FC, Saturday 16 March, KO 3.00pm
Vanarama National League North
It’s been another great week for the Lambs. We have had two long journeys to Scarborough Athletic and Gloucester City, and we have passed with flying colours. The trip to Scarborough saw us return with a 1 – 0 win thanks to a second half header from Jordan Cullinane-Liburd. Then on Tuesday, despite going a goal down at Gloucester, we hit back with a Ben Milne’s 18 yards strike and a last-minute header from Dan Creaney. As we move into the final 7 games, the calculators are out to work out how many points we need to be crowned champions. The one fact that we can confirm is that we have guaranteed our place in the play offs as Boston United in 8th place can’t catch us. The lead at the top of the table sees us with a 15 points advantage over Scunthorpe (who have a game in hand) and 16 points over Chorley who also have a game in hand. So, as it stands we need 10 points from the remaining 21 available to lift the trophy!
We welcome Chester on Saturday who will be in no mood to give us anything as they too are chasing important points to gain a play off place. Although they have not won for 5 games, they recently achieved an excellent 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe United, but lost at home to Southport on Tuesday evening. Last time out Chetser beat us 2 - 0 in December, so it will be important we don’t let them achieve the double over us!
It is looking likely to be our biggest gate of the season as Chester have almost sold out their 800 allocation, so we do advise supporters to purchase their tickets in advance to speed up entry to the ground and also arrive early! Our current record home gate for a National League North fixture is 2,063 against Scunthorpe United.
