20240201 - Next Up we Travel to Alfreton Town

Alfreton Town v Tamworth, Saturday 3 Feb. KO 3.00pm

Vanarama National League North

We are off to Alfreton Town on Saturday. The Derbyshire outfit currently sit just outside the play off places with 46 points from 28 games. Their last outing was a 3 -2 defeat at Chorley on Tuesday evening. Earlier on in the season Alfreton won a close game 1 - 0 at the Lamb and no doubt the team will be keen to make amends and continue our good form which has seen us go 10 games without defeat. The reds have won 8 of their 14 home games this season with 3 losses and 3 draws, while Tamworth head the away form table with 10 wins from 15 games played away from the Lamb.

Tamworth go into the game on the back of the 1 - 0 success at Scunthrope United on Tuesday evening, which extended our lead at the top of the table to 12 points. Speaking on Wednesday, Andy Peaks said, “Looking at the Scunthopre game I think everything pleased me about the way we played on the night. When I came to Tamworth nearly 2 years ago Scunthorpe were in the Football League. I wanted the lads to enjoy the occasion, because to be at a stadium like Scunthorpe have got, with the fantastic facilities and resources they have got, it shows how far we have come. We were worthy winners at the end of the game, we created a number of chances and the fact that their goalkeeper got the man of the match award says it all for me. The players continued to play as they have done all season – they were organised, competed for everything and gave everything they have got.”

“However, we have not won anything yet and we have got to keep working hard. We have a lot more tough games coming up and Alfreton will not be easy on Saturday. They beat us at our place, and we know what they are all about. They lost at Chorley on Tuesday evening so their manager will be looking for a reaction from them. It is all about backing up the result from Tuesday evening for us. It is still 3 points, and we need to keep picking up these points.”
