Curzon Ashton v Tamworth. Saturday 2 September, KO 3.00pm
Vanarama National League North
Match Day 7 sees us travel to the Manchester area to face Curzon Ashton. The Nash are starting their 10th Season in the National League North, having won promotion to the league in the 2013-14 season, and last season they finished in 13th place. We have faced them 6 times, winning 4 and losing 2. There is a famous statue outside the ground of 3 footballers local to the area associated with the World Cup – Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Armfield and Simone Perrotta.
Curzon Ashton have had a great start to the season and currently sit in second place with 12 points, having won 3 and drawn 3. They have beaten Darlington, Scunthorpe United and Warrington, while they have shared the points with Rushall Olympic, Buxton and Kings Lynn Town.
Tamworth travel to play the Nash on the back of a draw last Saturday at Farsley Celtic and the excellent 4 - 0 win over Hereford. Speaking about the Hereford game Manager Andy Peaks said “I thought the performance against Hereford on Monday was really good from start to finish. We had a few walking wounded after they put in a shift at Farsley on Saturday, but from the 1st to 90th minutes we were tremendous. The games keep coming and they are all against sides that are in the top half of the table. Curzon Ashton have had 2 great wins recently are went and beat Scunthorpe United last week, so we know we are in for another tough battle."
Liam Dolman and Luke Fairlamb will still be missing due to injury, but Lindon Meikle may be ready to come back into the squad after sustaining a foot injury in training just before the Scunthorpe game. Dan Creaney has picked up 5 bookings and will miss the game against Chorley on Tuesday evening.
