ISUZU FA Trophy 3rd Round. Saturday 17 December
Tamworth v Leamington (KO 3.00pm)
It’s a big cup day at the Lamb as we welcome higher league Leamington for the 3rd Round of the ISUZU FA Trophy on Saturday (KO 3.00pm). It promises to be a great game between two teams who will be keen to make progress in the competition. Just 11 league places separate the two teams from each other - Tamworth sit top of the Southern League Premier Central (45 points form 21 games played), while the Brakes are in 14th place of the National League North (26 points from 22 played).
Leamington are managed by long serving Paul Holleran who took over on the club back in November 2009 and has since gone on to manage over 600 games for the club. He is one of the longest serving club managers in the game and has led the club to two promotions and three Birmingham Senior Cup wins
Tamworth have already played their way through 3 rounds of the competition so far, with wins against AFC Rushden and Diamonds, Liversedge and Boston United. Leamington, on the other hand, joined the competition in the last round and enjoyed a 1 - 0 win over Bishop’s Stortford.
The last time we reached this stage of the competition was back in 2014 when Chorley visited the Lamb. The game ended in a 1 - 1 draw for Dale Belford’s team. The replay also ended all square (2 - 2) with the Lambs going through 6 - 5 on penalties in a shoot out that had 16 penalty attempts!
Leamington are enjoying life in the National League North, currently sitting in 14th place. As they arrive at the Lamb we also welcome back some familiar faces in their lineup - Connor Taylor, Joe Clarke, and Jack Lane. Steph Morley was also with them until he departed in October. Another face some Lambs fans will remember is Dan Turner who spent a month at Tamworth on loan from Port Vale as a 19 years old in Jan 2018.
