Lambs Move 8 Points Clear with 8th Win on the Bounce

Sat 22 Oct 2022 - 7:12PM

Tamworth 2 Hitchin Town 1

At 2.00pm this afternoon, the Lambs were 6 points clear at the top of the table, by 4.45 when the rest of the clubs had completed their games, that lead had increased to a staggering 8 points. Amazingly, Tamworth were the only team in the top 11 places in the division to win on a pivotal day.

The 2 - 1 win over Hitchin Town should have been a lot more comfortable. We took the lead with a Dan Creaney header in just 68 seconds, The first half then saw many chances come and go, which continued well into the second half, with Dan extending the lead and taking his personal tally for the season to 19 goals in all competitions. Dan then had a chance to put the game to bed but the keeper saved his penalty. With Hitchin grabbing a goal back they started to believe they could steal a point, however, the Lambs saw the game out to claim the all important win.

Tamworth had to start the game with no less than 6 of the squad out through injury and then proceeded to lose Liam Dolman and AJ George with injuries picked up in the game. Gift Mussa also collected his 5th booking of the season so will miss 1 game. You can say that the squad is being stretched at present as they completed an 8th successive league win.

Thank you to everyone that attended the game today, including family and friends of Arthur Frost and Martin Warrillow who very much appreciated the tribute paid by the fans before kick off.

On Tuesday, we welcome Royston Town to the Lamb (KO 7.45) - let’s get a great following down the Lamb as we look to continue our excellent winning run.
