20221006 - Andy Peaks Looks Ahead to Rushden in the Trophy

ISUZU FA TRophy 3Q Round. Sat 8 Oct, KO 3.00pm

AFC Rushden and Diamonds v Tamworth

Tamworth begin their ISUZU FA Trophy journey on Saturday at the 3Q Round stage of the competition with a trip to AFC Rushden and Diamonds. Although Diamonds sit bottom of the same league as the Lambs, we know it will be a tough game as this is an important competition for both sides.

Speaking about the game on Wednesday evening Manager Andy Peaks, who is a former Diamonds Manager said;. “It was different when I went back there last season as it wasn’t too long after I had joined Tamworth. “It was the same players and the set up was similar, but quite a lot has changed now with a turnaround of players and obviously the management has changed again in the last week. “There are still a lot of friendly faces there that will be nice to see, but for me it is no different to any other game now. “It’s about Tamworth getting a result, but it is a difficult time to play them because I never like playing a club when the manager has just gone because you expect to get a reaction from the players. “However, we have got a good group and we go there on Saturday with lots of confidence. “I want to do well in this competition because it ends at Wembley, and why would you not want to do well in it?”

In terms of the squad some of the injured players are returning and Ben Milnes has shown no signs of any after effects after coming on as a sub last week. “It was good to have Ben back because he is a big player for us, and Eoin McKeown is not far off a return now either. “I need to see how Hursty (James Hurst) is responding to treatment, so we are not far off having a full squad to choose from very soon.”

Andy also wanted to reiterate his thanks to the amazing support that the team is being given. “The fans have been magnificent, and the boys really appreciate their backing so it will be great to see and hear them at Rushden and Bromsgrove next Tuesday.
