Tamworth FC Statement Regarding Tamworth v Biggleswade Town

The game against Biggleswade Town on Saturday 11th December, played at the CRMOT Centre Community Stadium at the Lamb, was abandoned at half time when the opposition refused to return to the field of play. The reason given was that a Biggleswade Town player alleged that he had heard a racist comment directed at one of his team mates.

Extensive investigations were made into the alleged incident including the taking of witness statements, viewing and listening to audio and video recordings and reporting the matter to the Staffordshire Police Football Unit. The matter was reported to the Southern League and investigated by the Football Association.

Following their investigation the Football Association concluded that ‘no formal disciplinary action would be taken by the FA’ and that ‘no action will be taken against either club’.

Last week Tamworth FC appealed to the FA against the original decision made by the Southern League and we have been informed today that:

The game will be replayed under normal league rules. The game must be played before the season concludes on Saturday, and as such will be played on Thursday evening (21 April) with a 7.45 Kick off. In order to be as fair as we can to supporters that attended the original fixture we are making the following arrangements,

  • II you purchased a ticket online, then this ticket will be reactivated for you to enter the ground free of charge. Please produce your original QR code that you received by email
  • If you purchased a ticket from the ticket office and still have your ticket, then please bring this and show it at the gate to be admitted free of charge.
  • For all other supporters who wish to attend the game, there will be a reduced ticket charge of £5 for all adults (standard service charges apply) and for 17 year olds and under, entrance will be free of charge (proof of age required) . Tickets will not be on sale on line but at the ticket office on the evening from 6.30pm
  • Season Ticket Holders will be admitted free of charge.
  • Under league rules no refunds or vouchers have to be offered if a game is abandoned once 45 mins has been completed. Our decision to admit fans still holding tickets is to show appreciation for their patience while the alleged incident has been investigated.

As stated at the time, Tamworth Football Club do not condone discrimination in any form and will investigate and deal with all allegations as an urgent priority.

Tamworth Football Club is proud of the diversity evident at all levels of our club, including in the current first team squad and non-playing staff. We are delighted to work in partnership with ‘Kick It Out’ to further promote equality and inclusion within our local community.

Tamworth FC wish to thank supporters for their patience and understanding while this matter has been investigated.
We also want to thank those who made statements to support the club against this alleged allegation.
