AFC Rushden and Diamonds v Tamworth, Sat 19 March (KO 3.00pm)
Pitching In Southern League Premier Central
After the excellent 1 - 1 draw at Leiston on Tuesday evening, Tamworth travel to AFC Rushden and Diamonds, looking to avenge the 1 - 0 home defeat at the hands of AFC Rushden on 14 December, ironically against a team then managed by Andy Peaks! So how does Andy relish going back to face a club he managed for a number of seasons before joining Tamworth at the start of February.
“It will be nice to go back and see the boys. - and there's a lot of supporters there I like too. ”But you know, football is football and we've moved on. "I've come to a club where there is great ambition, a good group of players, some good people and good fans. I've got some good mates at Rushden who I've known for a long while, yeah, but ultimately it's about going back and trying to get another result. "However, again, it will be another tough game because at this time of the season the league table doesn't lie and they're right in the playoffs, so they are doing something right. ”I know what a good hard working team they've got there with some quality as well.”
So what does Andy make of the Tamworth side he's inherited after 5 games in charge - and still unbeaten?
“I'm learning more and more about the current group and looking at what we need to do to take us to another level, you know, to be challenging at the top end of the table next season and what I'm going to need to bring in to do that. “But a lot of the boys so far have put in a good case that they want to be here next year. “I'm not one to make loads of wholesale changes just for the sake of it, and I like to have a good group that bond well and buy into what we're trying to do.”
