20220106 - Gary Smith and Tom Baillie Speak ahead of Royston Town Visit

Lambs Media spoke to Manager Gary Smith and Head of Football Tom Baillie on Thursday evening as the Lambs players enjoyed their second upbeat training session of the week (pictured). Despite some of the players still missing recovering from Covid and injuries, it was great to see a good number returning to the fold and looking forward to the Royston Town game.

Gary Smith enthused “We have had two good sessions this week with the players digging deep. The spirit is good and we know that when that spirit is high, then we stand a good chance of winning football matches. ”We are now chomping at the bit and we want a game of football!”

Tom Baillie was equally upbeat, commenting, “Tuesday night’s training session was fantastic and is probably one of the best I have seen since I have been here. “The players were happy and smiling, some of the players came out of their shells and were really enjoying it. “It was great to see them joking and bonding with each other and we want to take that feeling into Saturday. “We still need to rebuild confidence but If we can score first and get a win it will really boost the players. “If we can have a good January we have a chance to do something and stand a chance of making the play offs.”

In terms of Saturday’s game Gary is pleased that players are returning and recalls the time two seasons ago when Tamworth played Royston Town having come into the game on the back of a run of defeats. “It was against our biggest rivals at the time and we came out and put on a fantastic performance and didn't look back from there. “Let’s hope that history repeats itself and we can kick start our season on Saturday.”

Tom Baillie spoke in more detail about potential new signings and the hope that there may be some new faces in the team for either Saturday or Tuesday when Peterborough Sports visit the Lamb. “It is important that we get the right type of player that we need at the moment, but we are talking to players and are close to seeing a couple over the line - however, we have to hope and pray no one else comes down with Covid.”

Tom confirmed that Dan Creaney and the two lads on loan from Kidderminster will be available after coming through two training sessions this week in good spirits. Gary Smith is delighted that Dan will be available “An on song Dan Creaney in your side is a match winning Dan Creaney.”
