It's Promotion for Tamworth Women!
Wed 2 Jun 2021 - 4:00PM
It’s celebrations all round today for Tamworth FC as it has been confirmed by the FA that the Women’s team, sponsored by BE Recruitment, have been promoted for the second time in successive years. Next season Tamworth will be playing in the West Midlands Regional Women's Football League Premier Division. The league sits at level 5 of the Women’s national pyramid structure, just one step away from the National Regional Leagues. This is a rapid rise for the team that has achieved so much success in each of the two seasons they have been playing (despite the pandemic!). Having delighted fans with their attacking performances, the team will face tougher competition next season but they are fully prepared for the challenge.
Speaking to the club’s official web site Manager Ryan Hamilton said he was really excited about the news which has taken quite a process to get through. With the season being curtailed early due to the pandemic, the club had to apply to move to the next level and have had a number of weeks waiting until the news finally arrived today. Ryan said “ I can’t wait to tell the girls when we meet for training tonight, no doubt we will have some celebrations later with this fantastic news. “To have achieved this status in just two years is a dream come true. “We set ourselves a target of being in the National League structure in 5 years and we are only one step away now. “All our hard work over the past 2 years has been recognised and we can’t wait for the new challenge.”
Tamworth have already played a number of the teams that compete at this level in cup competitions and have only lost twice. However, the teams that play at this level are older and more experienced, training twice a week and playing in far better facilities. Teams such as Sutton Coldfield Town, Crusaders, Leek Town, Solihull, Worcester City and Redditch United will feature on the fixture list next season.
In terms of the squad, Ryan is very happy with the players already at the club. “I am only looking to bring a couple of extra players in. “The current squad have earned the chance to play at a higher level and they deserve a chance to show what they can do.”
The team have already been training throughout the summer, but pre-season will commence in earnest at the start of July with friendlies due to commence in the second or third week of that month.
Many congratulations Tamworth Women!
