Tamworth
1-2
Altrincham
After the high workrate and last minute heroics at Braintree and Fylde extended The Lambs unbeaten run to three Vanarama National League games in a row, Andy Peaks’ side returned home to take on Phil Parkinsons Altrincham who sat one point ahead of Tamworth in the table before kick off.
Peaks made no changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday night’s trip to Mill Park as Kennedy Digie maintained his spot at the back with Jordan Cullinane-Liburd returning to the bench, after a one game suspension.
Starland Warriors U11’s lead the teams out and Altrincham got the game underway attacking the Castle End in the first half. The Robins forced a corner in the second minute which was cleared from danger at the far post by Hollis.
The Lambs then worked the ball to the other end on 9 but Hollis’ header from Sundire’s throw went back to Ross in the home goal.
A quick break out of the midfield by McGlinchey on 13 then allowed Wreh to advance and find Milnes 30 yards out who aimed for goal but fired straight at Ross with his powerful drive.
A sustained forward push forced a corner on the right which was glanced towards goal by Hollis and nearly met by Williams, but he recovered to find Tshikuna and he fired straight down the barrel at Ross who caught his strike at head height.
Tshikuna was bundled down for a Lambs freekick in the left channel on 18 which Milnes lined up and was just an inch or two from Digie’s right boot as it skipped out past the far post.
Williams persistence on the left allowed him to drag the ball back for Wreh on 20, who found McGlinchey on the right of the area but his way was blocked and Milnes return deep cross was dealt with by Cooper before Wreh could get to it.
Amaluzor went toe to toe with Fairlamb into the Lambs box on 23 and fired a rising shot into the side netting.
The Lambs were denied a goal on 24 after good work by McGlinchey, Williams and Milnes set up Wreh but Golden cleared his goalbound strike off the line.
Shouts for a penalty against Fairlamb were waved away by the referee when Amaluzor went down as they both chased the ball into the area on 32, and the same player struck from distance straight at Singh in the Robins next move.
Linney was booked for a reckless challenge on Sundire on 35 which brought shouts ‘off’ from the Shed close by, and from Singh’s long deadball Wreh forced a corner on the left which Milnes dropped into the area but a defensive boot cleared the visitors lines.
Crawford then tripped Milnes as Tamworth moved into the centre circle on 40 and was booked for his efforts.
From a Lambs corner on 43 Altrincham advanced from their own area with Linney driving downfield only to find a stubborn Lambs defence in his way.
As Sundire tracked down field he went down and was unable to continue bringin Cullinane-Liburd in at right back as two minutes added time was shown.
Singh made the first real telling save of the game in added time, denying Newby’s close range angled shot after Banks had found space with his low ball into the box, but Singh was quick to drop and smother the on target effort.
Altrincham made a change before The Lambs restarted the game and Williams burst down the left to rifle a shot on target but also at Ross on 51.
The Robins attacked Meadow Street end and Singh denied Banks with a well-positioned one footed stop on 53 which saw Tamworth quickly counter but play was halted when Newby fouled Williams and saw his name taken by the referee and a foul from the freekick denied Morrison a shot from Digie’s header.
Morrison did well to prevent Reddin from making headway into the area on the hour, as the tempo of the game refused to let up, but there was no stopping Newby from angling a low shot home on 61 after Osbourne found Amaluzor on the right and he got the better of Fairlamb before pulling it back for Newby’s tidy finish in front of the travelling fans. (0-1, 61 mins)
Williams brought a flying save out of Ross on 64 with a shot from the left as the keeper pushed it over the br for a corner, and Creaney came on for Wreh before the flag kick could be taken. The striker received the ball and saw his low shot deflected behind for another which Altrincham cleared and Fairlamb did well to deny Newby’s run after Amaluzor went clear over the halfway line and tried a threaded pass to his teammate.
Tonks replaced Milnes on 72, and Singh took the captain’s armband for the remainder of the game, and Acquaye replaced Williams soon after as minutes were ticked away without any real chances being created.
foul by Cullinane-Liburd on Newby midway into the Lambs half on 78 gave Osbourne the freekick and it was headed back into the box by Cooper and headed home by Amaluzor to double the visitors lead. Crawford lead the celebrations and jumped into his own fans, but quite rightly fell foul of the rulebook and recievded a second yellow card to leave his side a man short for the final 10 minutes. (0-2, 79 mins)
Okafor replaced Tshikuna before The Lambs restarted the match and Tamworth tried to take advantage of the advantage.
A Cullinane-Liburd cross was put behind for a right sided corner on 85 which Jones headed away from the box, but it handed Tonks a throw from by the clubhouse which came to nothing when a foul was spotted after the ball had been released.
A chance fell to McGlinchey on 90, after Acquaye followed the ball to him in the box, but the visiting defence were quickly in his way to smother the chance as six minutes added time was shown.
Tonks go another chance to launch a throw but it was cleared, and Acquaye was booked for halting the run of Golden over the halfway line.
Creaney pulled one back with a close range header from a Morrison centre from the left with a minute remaining (1-2, 90+5 mins) but there was no time for any more late goals and the game ended the three match winning streak.
