3-1
Kings Lynn Town
Following the dramatic last minute winner over Brackley Town in midweek, Andy Peaks’ Lambs returned to the Compare The Build Community Stadium as Adam Lakeland’s Linnets took to the artificial surface in game 25 of the season so far.
Tamworth sat in top spot before kick off having played 19 league games a point ahead of second played Scunthorpe United and two points ahead of South Shields in 3rd. Celebrating his birthday on the day of the game, Andy Peaks was hoping for a positive result to aid the occasion go with a swing!
He made one change to the side that ran out against The Saints with Kyle Finn sitting out and Dempsey Arlott-John coming into the eleven.
The Lambs got the game underway kicking into dropping sun, and attacking the Castle End in the first half and immediately forced a corner off Curley’s blocked cross and with just 40 seconds on the clock Dolman headed home at the far post to give The Lambs a very early lead (1-0, 1 min)
Arlott-John’s cross lead to another corner in the second minute and Cullinane-Liburd glanced his header toward goal but there was no repeat of Dolman’s early goal.
A foul on Jellis on the left sent the deadball into the arms of Jones on 5 and a run by Acquaye eventually bore a long throw from Tonks but the keeper was equal to that one too.
The Lambs continued to press The Linnets, and retained the majority of possession without testing Jones until a couple of Tonks corners around 20 forced the home keeper to leap high, and in the process Stephens clashed heads in the crowded area and needed quick and prolonged treatment to a blood injury before play could continue, changing his shirt from 11 to 18 in the process.
Tshukuna waited for his moment to lift his pass over to the run of Acquaye in the left channel on 30 but his shot was blocked and Tonks throw came out to Deacon who watched his strike come back of Cullinane-Liburd before going out of play.
There was more close range action from another Tonks corner on 35, but Jones batted it away and his defenders held their line to prevent Arlott-John getting his cross in from the half clearance.
Morrison tried his luck on 38 and his right footed drive took a touch off Cullinane-Liburd before going back to Singh, and Stephens low cross from the right on 39 rolled along the edge of the box in front of the segregated travelling faithful, begging for a close range finish from the visitors, but there was no one near by to oblige.
At the other end Deacon volleyed Jellis looping header against Coulson for another corner, and Tonks planted into the box for Cullinane-Liburd to dig out, and Jellis to rattle home from 6 yards (2-0, 41 mins)
Morrison was booked for a blatant shove on Arlott-John on 43 and Acquaye’s deadball curled into the area and but travelled past the far post untouched.
As the floodlights came on to light the ground seven minutes added time was shown and from a flowing move out of midfield, Deacon turned a shot towards the right hand post and forced Jones to push it out for another flagkick, but when Jellis received the ball outside the area his low shot was easy for the keeper in the final action of the half.
The Linnets restarted the game and the temperature on the terraces dropped but Arlott-John was warmed up enough to take on defender Jones down the Lambs right on 47 so Acquaye lined up the freekick and fired low but just into the side netting.
Rogers picked his spot and shot from 25 yards on 50, straight at Singh, and from the continuing play Deacon found himself crowded out on the edge of the area but there was no penalty claim when he tumbled under pressure.
Cullinane-Liburd drove a low shot at the target on 56 but found the visiting defence in the way again, but was booked a couple of minutes later when he ducked his head to nod the ball away from Morrison who appeared to come off worse, and Stephens’ deadball from 25 yards left a lot to be desired, flying high over the Castle End terrace before coming down to land.
Jellis was then booked for a sliding tackle in the middle of the pitch and Singh was quickly booked afterwards for timewasting.
King’s Lynn forced a couple of corners in quick succession around the 70 minute mark which The LAMbs dealt with, and Jellis’ cross from the right was ballooned behind by Coulson for an Acquaye corner but Tshikuna’s stopping header flashed past the far post and took a deflection for a throw which Tonks launched into the box and Deacon headed it home at the near post (3-0, 71 mins)
Arlott-John did all the hardwork to get into a good position on the edge of the box on 76 but was unable to get his low shot on target, and Peaks made a double change for the final ten minutes.
Pontkelli picked up a long ball and stole through the Lambs back line to prod the ball past Singh on 82 (3-1, 82 mins) and then Rogers cross was met by the same players head at the near post on 87, but he couldn’t get it on target.
Rogers was involved again on 89, created space for himself in the right channel before curling his shot over the corner of bar and post, with Singh happy to watch it out.
Deep into added time Brogan picked up a needless yellow card for kicking the ball away after the whistle had blown for a foul against him and the final whistle blew on another three points to maintain top spot in the Vanarama National League North.
