Match Report

In the final game before Christmas Andy Peaks took his second placed squad to the home of The Turbines, 17th in the league before kick off, and he made no changes to the side that ran out 4-0 winners over Southport a week previously handing Liam Dolman his 50th Lambs appearance, and if he came on from the bench, Alex Jones too.

As the sun dropped low over the Lincoln Road side of the ground, a venue Tamworth had never won at in three previous attempts, the home side got the game underway with The Lambs attacking the clubhouse end in the first half.
And it took until the 10th minute for the first real chance of the game when Tshikuna whipped a left sided cross into the box for Jellis but it as booted away for a throw. Tonks launched the ball int the box and it fell for Finn but his shot from 18 yards deflected up and into the hands of keeper Crook.
Cullinane-Liburd threaded it down the line for Wreh to chase on 13 and he forced a corner on the right, which Gash headed away and Tonks volleyed back in but the home defence coped well enough to clear their lines.
At the other end on 25 Gash forced Singh to save his low diagonal shot with his feet after Jones and Sembie Ferris had combined down the right to feed him the ball in the box.
The Lambs responded through a Jellis run and pass which found Wreh advancing on Crook’s goal, but his right footed strike glanced the top of the bar.
Jellis was involved again, from a Sports freekick, on 29 stealing the ball and making headway upfield but Finn was unable to reach the slightly overhit cross box ball, just past the far post.
The home side did take the lead though, on 31, when Sembie-Ferris’ ball from the right was pushed away from the far post by Singh but followed up from close range by Nicholson (1-0, 31 mins)
And it was nearly two on 34 when a slip by Fairlamb allowed Sembie-Ferris through down the right and Gash and Nicholson just failed to connect with his centre.
From a Lambs corner on 42 Jellis shot took a deflection over the top of Crook’s bar but Sports defended the flagkick and when Jellis pulled it back for Acquaye his shot was also deflected out for another corner which Cullinane-Liburd got to but his header ballooned over the target.
The Lambs number 18 then unleashed a drive from 20 yards which curled just past the dive of Crook and past the post as Tamworth tried to make it level at the break although Acquaye was booked in added time at the end of the first half.

HT 1-0

The Lambs restarted the game and on 47 a penalty was awarded when Jellis was brought down in the area by a clumsy sliding challenge giving Wreh the chance from the spot and he sent Crook the wrong way to level the tie (1-1, 47 mins)
In the next move, Acquaye found Finn in the box and he span and shot over the target from 12 yards, as the tempo of the game from both sides continued at a faster pace than had been seen in the opening 45 minutes.
Curley’s pace took him to the right wing on 56 and he was tripped as he tried to cut into the box earning Felix a booking and The Lambs kept the pressure which ended with Acquaye striking low at Crook.
Jellis looked up and forced Crook to push the ball around his left hand post on 59 with a low shot from 20 yards on the right, and Finn’s corner was met by the head of Wreh but he couldn’t glance it goalward.
Tonks and Wreh combined to set up the former with a chance on 64 but his angled effort went out past the far post, and a deep freekick by Curley and resulting long throw from Tonks then had to be dealt with by the home defence and Milnes came on for Tshikuna.
Creaney and Williams came on for Wreh and Acquaye on 76, and when play restarted Tamworth put the ball into the area and a high boot on Finn by Cann resulted in a penalty for Tamworth which Milnes powerfully drove home to give his side the lead (1-2, 78 mins)
Dolman was booked for a clumsy challenge on Sembie-Ferris on 80 giving Lawlor the freekick in the right channel and Cullinane-Liburd headed it away but the ball was soon back down the other end and from a long Tonks throw, Creaney glanced it over the top of the advancing keeper to the delight of the travelling faithful. (1-3, 83 mins)
And a very similar goal was forthcoming on 89 as Creaney glanced Tonks throw down and inside the far post to extend the lead even further (1-4, 89 mins)
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and the Lambs duly celebrated another victory when the whistle blew.
