Match Report

The Lambs were back in pre-season action a week after their previous home win over Stourbridge, and made the journey down the A14 to Market Harborough to take on the town’s Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side on their 3G surface.

Tamworth’s side took on a familiar feel and welcomed back Ben Milnes for his first pre-season run out and Trialist 7 made his second appearance after featuring at Quorn.

Harborough got the game underway with The Lambs attacking the sports complex end of the ground.
And they went on the attack in the slowly falling rain in the first ten minutes with Williams and Tr7 showing quick paced intention in particular.
However, despite the pressure Harborough took the lead on 14 when a Harborough trialist cut in from the left and let from 20 yards, a powerful strike which gave Singh no chance as it smashed into the top corner, despite his best efforts (1-0, 14 mins)
Neither side was able to get control of proceedings for the rest of the half and the offside flag prevented both sets of forwards from getting a sight on goal with the respective defences doing likewise.
The home side doubled their lead just before the break though when the number 8, Duffy, was played in with a neat 1-2, waltzed through the remainder of The Lambs back line and slotted home from close range to the unbridled joy of his young son cheering him on from the terraces and the rest of the home faithful. (2-0, 43 mins)

HT 2-0

The Lambs made three changes at the break, but came under attack in the opening exchanges following a strong run by 10 which forced Singh to make a low stop.
An encouraging run from Tr28 allowed him to whip the ball into the area on 50 and it was inches away from the head of Creaney sprinting into the area.
Williams made way for Fairlamb on 53 and Tamworth’s presence on the field seemed to be pushing Harborough back more than in the first half.
Creaney’s ball to Tr28 resulted in a freekick for Milnes to strike on 56 and he curled it just wide the right hand upright with the home keeper in full flight.
Fairlamb was unable to continue shortly after that passage of play and Tamworth made three changes, including him, for the final half hour and although three trialists were on the field, the names were not unknown to most Lambs fans.
Curley whipped the ball into the box for Jones to head down on target on 66 but he was thwarted by the keeper, and more pressure was forthcoming but Willetts was unable to turn the all goalwards on 68 .
Tr28 was involved again on 74 taking the ball down the right and drilling it into the box for Jones and it took a great one handed stop from the keeper to prevent him hitting the back of the net.
More forward play from Tr28 forced the covering defender to concede a corner on the right on 76 which was met by the head of Cockerill-Mollett but he couldn’t get the direction he wanted on it.
Tr16 showed skill to take the ball past his marker and down the left on 82 and forced the keeper in a low stop at his near post.
The Lambs final change came on 84 when Singh made way for the regular TrGK and Meikle made way for Griffin.
Then on 87 Tr28 forced the keeper to protect his goal yet again, and the follow up from Tr16 was turned away for a corner by the defender on the line.
