Preseason matchday 07:
The Lambs travelled to Pack Meadow to take on Coleshill Town of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division in the penultimate pre-season run out.
The Lambs got the game underway, attacking the fir tree end of the 3G ground and a low shot from Finn on 7 was the first action.
The home side took the lead on 12 though, breaking over the halfway line through Tonge who set Willis free and despite a suspicion and call for offside from the Lambs bench and travelling fans, he made headway down the right and pulled the ball back for Tomkinson to finish at the far post. (1-0 12 mins)
Fairlamb forged an opening to set Bradley up on the edge of the box on 14 but his ball through found Creaney offside who powered his shot over the bar from 12 yards.
A Deacon cross from the right on 18 skimmed the head of Creaney and signalled The Lambs intention which bore fruit on 20 with an equaliser born through hard work from midfield culminating with Curley crossing low from the right into the path of Milnes who finished strongly via the inside of the right hand post past the home keeper. (1-1, 20 mins)
The Lambs took the lead on 26 when Deacon set up Creaney with a simple finish from close range after getting the better of the home defence and firing his shot into the danger area. (1-2, 26 mins)
Creaney out jumped Hart in the home goal but couldn’t get enough purchase on the dropping ball to beat the covering defenders on 27 as light rain fell and Deacon made it three on the half hour with a fine header from close range under pressure, from Milnes cross into the box rom the right (1-3, 30 mins)
Finn saw his shot deflected for a corner on the left on 36 but nether Hurst nor Creaney could connect at the far post while at the other end a break saw Tonge feed Jardine with a right sided low ball into the area which Singh was equal to and The Lambs finished the half on top.
The Colemen restarted the match with Tamworth having made one change at the break and it was substitute Howkins who headed the ball home on 49 but he had strayed offside and so his finish from close range off Creaney’s goalbound knockdown was chalked off.
Home sub Washbourne forced Singh to protect his goal on 54 from his low shot, and after a foul on Cockerill-Mollett the deep left sided freekick was met well by Creaney but his header skimmed the wrong side of the far post.
At the other end, a searching deadball found the head of Jardine who couldn’t quite get direction on it, and Tamworth made their second change before play resumed.
Fairlamb whipped the ball in from the left on 62 but Creaney was unable to get a clean strike on it, and in the next move Clement rifled an effort over the corner of bar and post from the left of the box.
Singh didn’t manage to get a clean grasp on a high ball into the danger area on 63 and The Lambs defence mopped up Coleshill’s attempts to finish the half chance.
Fairlamb did well to force a corner with tricky play on the by-line on 67 and Creaney raced into meet the flagkick at the far post but lifted his header over the bar from a couple of yards out.
Tomkinson sprinted into the left of the area on 70 and forced Singh into a save at his near post, and from the corner Byrne headed well wide of the far post, however at the other end on 72 Howkins made no mistake directing a downward header from a corner inside the far post to extend The Lambs lead (1-4, 72 mins)
Coleshill exerted more pressure causing The Lambs to defend strongly, and after a break in play while Curley received treatment, Andy Peaks made two more changes, and a further two followed with three minutes remaining and the home side reduced the arrears with the last kick of the game when Fairlamb was adjudged to have brought down Tonge in the area, and the same player dispatched the penalty past Singh.
