Match Report

The Lambs took another break from League action, welcoming the Ravens from Coalville back to The CR MOT Community Stadium for a Southern League Cup tie a few short games after the two sides had met in the League and drawn 1-1.

As perhaps expected, Tamworth made a few changes to the normal eleven with two players making full debuts – former Villa player Michael Tait-Moran and Louis-Augustin Malandjou-Kondjo from Caernarvon in the Welsh League. The visitors fielded a young side, with an average age of 21.

Coalville kicked off attacking the Castle End in the first half but it was The Lambs who took the game to the visitors with Walters, Malandro-Kondjo, and Clement all make forays forwards and trying to test Bukowski.
Pendley headed a deep freekick from the right goalward on 11 and forced the keeper to tip it over the bar for a corner on the left which was headed behind for one on the right which was cleared.
Walters forced another on 14 but the visitors cleared the packed area and on 18 Yeomans powerful cross forced the keeper to defend his goal.
Clement and Tait-Moran forced a double save from Bukowski in the next move and from the corner Taylor’s header was blocked for another.
The players took a drinks break on 21 and on 24, when Taylor tried to lift the ball over his man on the edge of the area, a hand precented him so Walters stepped and struck the dead ball into the hands of the keeper.
A long ball for Taylor nearly paid off on 28 but Bukowski was first too it, and then Dexter fired low and a few feet wide of the left hand post.
On 33, in Coalville’s first real attack of note, Pendley was adjudged to have brought down Carter as he tried to get a shot away in the Lambs box, and Carter sent Fallows the wrong way from the spot to open the scoring (0-1, 34 mins)
The ball fell for Taylor from the Lambs restart and inside the box he saw his goalbound shot blocked and cleared, and on 37 Tait-Moran rolled the ball past the keeper but also the post, but it wouldn’t have counted as the flag had gone up in the build-up play.
Taylor came close to an equaliser on 41 with a close range shot which the keeper touched behind for a corner, and from the left sided flag kick Taylor got his header to it in front of the near post but it dropped on top of the top of the net.
But the visitors bagged their second on 42 with a breakaway move which saw Jardine fire from the left of the box into the top right corner with Fallows unable to prevent the net bulging (0-2, 42 mins) as the visitors ended the first half in control.

HT 0-2

Tamworth restarted proceedings and nearly fell behind further but for a save by Fallows to prevent The Lambs defensive blushes, but from the corner Pepe-Ngoma headed home at the far post (0-3, 46 mins)
Morley was denied a goal by the on rushing Fallows on 50 and from a left sided corner on 52 Thomas’ header at the far post failed to force a save from Bukowski.
Taylor then went through with the ball at his feet but it was travelling quickly and the keeper smothered the ball before the striker could do anything with it.
Tamworth made two changes before the hour with Parker and Griffin joining the fray.
On 62, Walters reduced the arrears taking the ball down sublimely on the left of the pitch before advancing into the area and stroking it home (1-3, 62 mins)
Taylor wrapped his foot around the ball on the right of the box but could only find the side netting on 64.
There was a break in play around 67 while Ludlam received treatment for cramp and play restarted on 70.
Coalville’s Taylor was shown a yellow card as Tamworth pressed and Parker was booked on 74 for a hefty challenge in the middle of the park.
Malandjou-Kondjo struck from distance on target on 77 but it was straight at the keeper, and Carter was booked too on 78.
A breakout of The Lambs back line on 79 saw the ball find Walters who fired the ball diagonally towards the far post and it was pushed out for a corner.
Parker sent over a fine cross from the right on 82 which the Coalville defence had to be on their guard to deal with.
Clement then tried an audacious lob of the keeper from 45 yards on the left of centre on 85 but it dropped just over the target.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game ad Walters needed treatment before rejoining the play.
There was time for Jardine to fire a shot over the bar from 18 yards as the seconds ran down, and one final corner for The Lambs presented a last chance to reduce the scoreline but the final whistle blew on League Cup defeat.
