Match Report

In what proved to be The Lambs final pre-season run out, Tamworth were welcomed to the impressive Technique Stadium in a behind closed doors encounter.

The Lambs had faced, and lost to, Spireites boss James Rowe in a previous friendly a year prior while he was in charge at Gloucester City, and there were was a name on the home sides teamsheet that rang a few bells too in former Fylde striker Danny Rowe.

Chesterfield got the game underway and forced an early corner on the left which almost brought an early goal from Cox, but it would have been an own goal had Singh not been in the right position to deny his goalbound header!
Miller made a run and forced Singh into a save on 4 and in the tenth minute the home side took the lead when Rowe netted from close range, converting a right sided cross into the box. (0-1. 4 mins)
Singh had to leave his area to clear the danger on 13 and then batted a right footed strike from Rowe away a minute later.
At the other end, Creaney placed a header wide of the mark but play switched back to the home side and Cox prevented Clarke from getting a close range header on 22.
One of the two new Tamworth trialists nearly made an impact on 32 with a shot at the keeper Loach on 32 but again Singh had to be strong to save a shot from Khan on 41 although the flag would have ruled out a goal had it gone past him.
At the other end the two trialists combined and 7 fed 10 with a perfect ball but he somehow shot wide of the mark with the goal at his mercy.
In the final action of an enjoyable first half Payne headed over the target shortly before the whistle blew.

HT 1-0

Chesterfield made two changes at half time, and The Lambs kicked off and made their way down the right channel.
A foul presented Beswick with a dead ball which he duly planted onto the head of Creaney to head home past Loach and level the tie (1-1, 46 mins)
On 54 Forde suffered an injury and was unable to continue, having to be helped from the field and bringing Thomas into the game.
And on 63 Clarke made a great run through the Lambs midfield and threaded his pass to Rowe who made no mistake from 18 yards (1-2, 63 mins)
He missed out on the chance to bag a hat-trick on 68 making an uncharacteristic air shot at a left wing cross from 8 yards out and both sides made a few changes in personnel.
Taylor got his first pre-season minutes under his belt and appeared to be tripped as he turned to shoot on 78 but there was no penalty given, and a minute later Rowe turned provider for substitute Mandeville who headed past Rowe to further extend the Spireites scoreline. (1-3, 79 mins)
Singh continued to put in a great shift batting away a thumping strike from Rowe on 82, catching a curling effort on 84, denying Rowley with an outstretched boot on 86 and finally preventing Miller from netting at the far post in the final action of pre-season.
