Match Report

A week since the point against Royston at the CR MOT Community Stadium at The Lamb, Tamworth welcomed the Waders from Biggleswade for the next Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division fixture.
Tamworth made four changes to the side that started against The Crows with McDonald, Forde, and O’Connor coming into the starting XI, along with Soleman who made his debut.

The Waders got the game underway as the rain fell persistently, with Tamworth attacking the Meadow Street end in the first half.
In the fourth minute Ryan O’Connor and Soleman combined down the left to send the ball into the box and after an initially blocked shot, McDonald fired just wide of the far post.
A foul on Soleman on the left set up Beswick with a freekick on 12 and it was headed by McDonald back into the mix but is was cleared by the visiting defence.
At the other end Cullinane-Liburd’s pass was short and allowed Davies sight of the target but his shot was blocked and the corner dealt with.
The offside flag prevented O’Connor from finishing a chance on 20 and likewise a flag stopped Squire from taking the ball down at the far post to test Singh on 22.
The game continued to be a battle between overhit balls by the visitors and attempts to play passing football on the part of the Lambs with Biggleswade quick to disrupt things in their own half and look for a speculative pass or shot.
Chambers-Parrillon struck from 25 yards on 32 and sent the ball out of the ground over the Castle End terrace, summing up the game so far.
On 34 Singh’s long ball out of defence was latched onto by McDonald but his first touch took it just took far away from him and Forster was able to smother it before he could get into a position to shoot.
McDonald picked up a booking on 38 for a late challenge on Bush in the centre circle.
Three minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half and Tamworth mounted a charge before the whistle.
Beswick was upended on the left to set up the deadball into a packed box, he ball into the area was met by Cox with a deft touch but cleared a yard off the line and the first half ended goalless.

Rain soaked Lambs strike in the second half

The Lambs restarted proceedings and did their best to pen the visitors back in the opening exchanges and it paid off on 50 when Forde struck from distance, Forster parried it away but only as far as Ryan who finished with aplomb from 6 yards out, his first in a Lambs shirt (1-0, 50 mins)
A foul by Forde on the edge of the box on 58 earned him a booking and Davies struck the bar with his strongly hit deadball.
Tamworth countered and O’Connor was set free through the centre and down the left of the pitch, as he advanced into the area Forster raced out, O’Connor rounded him and looked for goal but the keeper pulled him down and was booked.
The referee pointed to the spot and Beswick stepped up to fire home with a powerful spot kick to double The Lambs lead (2-0, 63 mins)
Giles tried his luck from distance on 69 but only proceeded in putting his effort into Meadow Street.
A strong run by Tonks on 78 ended with a foul and a freekick 20 yards from target on the edge of the D which Beswick struck and Forster parried.
McDonald bore down on the loose ball and connected but the angle was tight and he couldn’t put it away.
Walters went down under pressure but no penalty was given on 84, and then McDonald fired straight at Forster when well placed as Tamworth continued to look to add to their tally in the final minutes.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and Walters made absolutely certain of the points with a strong run and angled finish from the left of the box in the fourth minute of added time (3-0, 90+4 mins) shortly before the final whistle blew on three points.
