Match Report

After Saturday’s home victory The Lambs made the short journey to Kirby Road to take on the Canaries on their own turf, having beaten them 3-0 in the league cup a week previously.
Tamworth made two changes to the side that defeated Redditch United with Magunda and Forde replacing Cox and Clement.

Tamworth started the match, attacking the Bowling Club end of the ground but the first half chance fell to the home side when a Barwell freekick on the left took a deflection off a Barwell player in the box and out for a goalkick.
Following a flicked on header by Gough, the home keeper was tested by Obeng’s right footed strike on 3 which handed a corner to The Lambs.
Obeng then forced a corner on the right on 5 and Beswick found Waite at the back of the box but Barwell could only half clear the danger.
Home captain Hickey struck a low shot which took a touch and out for a corner on the right on 9. Brown-Hill’s flagkick was met by Hickey and he forced Singh to parry the ball out for another corner on the same side.
A Gough cross was headed behind for another Lambs corner on 14 but Beswick’s deadball was cleared and Magunda was forced to deny the run of Omotoa down the Barwell right from the ensuing forward play by the home side.
A foul by Hollis earned hm a booking on 19 and Billson got his fingertips to Beswick’s deadball and Tamworth kept pressing, resulting in the first goal of the game on 21 with Obeng picking up the ball on the left of the area and squeezing his low shot between keeper and post (1-0, 21 mins)
A strong run by Kaziboni down the right resulted in a foul on the player and Beswick lined up the deadball on 24, left footed but it came to nothing.
Obeng then did all the hard work by beating two defenders, to set himself up from 18 yards on 27 but skied his shot high and wide.
At the other end, Putman hit a rising shot from 18 yards at Singh on 30 but it was easy for the keeper to take at head height.
Handball by Frances on the edge of the centre circle on 35 and Eze headed it on but it was straight to Singh again.
The Lambs doubled their advantage on 38 through Waite’s third of the season and third in three games after an almighty push forward resulted in Forde pulling the ball back into the area from the right and Waite had a relatively easy finish from 8 yards out (2-0, 38 mins)
Two minutes added time were shown at the end of the half which ended without further incident.

HT: BARWELL 0 2 TAMWORTH

The Lambs replaced Frances with Cox at the break while Barwell made all three changes before restarting proceedings.
A mix up at the back saw Waite pounce and stab the ball past Billson on 49, but it rolled agonisingly pas the far post and O’Sullivan was booked for a late challenge on Obeng on the halfway line on 53.
Great interplay between Kaziboni, Waite and Forde pushed the Lambs forwards on the hour and a strong run by the former forced Billson to protect his near post a couple of minutes later.
Barwell forced a corner on 69 and Tamworth failed to deal with the pressure and the home sides continued possession of the ball in the final third, and substitute Evans slid the ball under Singh from the left of the area to reduce the arrears (2-1, 69 mins)
A rasping shot from Waite from the right whizzed past the far post and he was replaced by Creaney while the keeper retrieved the ball for the goal kick.
Barwell pushed on with 10 to go and penned The Lambs back momentarily before Clement replaced Forde. the subs ball through the Barwell back line nearly found Obeng in an onside position with just the keeper to beat on 84 but the flag denied him and then Kaziboni struck a shot from the right which Billson blocked.

Clement was bundled into the hoardings behind the goal on 87 and play continued with a Lambs corner as he received treatment off the field.
Clement was then booked for kicking the ball away in a separate incident on 89.
In the second of four minutes added time Kaziboni found Creaney in the box on the penalty spot but he lifted his fluid shot over the target by a couple of inches and the final whistle blew on a seventh win in eight and fifth successive victory.
