Match Report

The Lambs welcomed The Canaries to The CR MOT Community Stadium for the Southern League Cup Preliminary Round tie.
Tamworth made eight changes to the starting eleven that had defeated Nuneaton in the FA Cup, while Barwell made seven from their FA Cup victory and featured former Lamb Tristan Dunkley in their line up with former U21 manager Gareth Zimmerman assisting in the dugout.
Barwell started the match with The Lambs attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half and Williams hit a low shot from the edge of the area in the second minute which went wide of the mark.
And then inside the third minute Cox sprayed a perfect pass out of defence for Waite to sprint on to on the edge of the area and he slotted it home to make it 1-0 from 12 yards out (1-0, 3 mins)
A great move out of midfield on 8 ended with Forder feeding Williams on the right of the box but his shot rose over the target.
A strong run from Clement ended with a pushed pass to Wiliams on 13 but he dragged the shot wide of the right hand post.
Barwell’s first real chance came on 16 when Cotterill connected with a lofted pass and hit a right footed volley that curled wide of the right hand post. It was 2-0 on 17 thanks to a fine strike from Clement – a left footed curling shot from the right of the area into the top left corner which gave the visiting keeper no chance (2-0, 17 mins)
Williams was booked for a clattering challenge midway into the Barwell half on 23.
Hoenes rifled a shot straight at Bannatyne-Billson on 28 after dropping his shoulder to take him last a couple of Canaries in the left of the box and there was then a break in play while players refreshed and Dunkley received treatment in the centre circle.
Thomas was then booked for brining down Williams as he tried to go past his marker onto a Cox through ball from defence.
Clement threaded the ball through into the box on 40 and Waite tried to get onto it but he was denied a second strike by the defender and keeper.
A burst of speed saw Frances into the area on 42 but his final ball found the side netting and the Lambs ended the half comfortably with a two goal advantage.
Waite was upended on the right wing in added time and Wilder’s deadball threatened but didn’t quite hit the target shortly before the whistle blew.

HT: TAMWORTH 2 0 BARWELL

Tamworth restarted proceedings and forced a corner the right on 48 which Waite headed high and wide of the mark.
The second half was slower paced than the first and neither side seemed able to cause problems in the same way that they had in the first.
On 56 Brown-Hill picked up a booking for a challenge on Frances on the half way line.
A foul in the opposite direction, by Wilder on 61 lead to a header from McAteer going back to Walton and the same Barwell player was needed at the other end quickly after to block a shot from Waite before he was replaced by Creaney.
Tenacious play from Williams gave him some room to get a shot away on 64 but it curled wide of the mark and he set up Creaney after a good run on 66 but it went back to the keeper.
At the other end, Dunkley fired across the box and out past the far post before Somel came on for Forde. Cox did well to block an attempted cross from Evans on 75 as the visitors sought a way back in to the cup tie but sub Edwards effort on 78 went so far and high out of the ground that NASA would be probably be looking at it before the stewards managed to find it.
Cotterill did a lot better with his effort for Barwell on 80, but his cross come shot from the right beat everyone only to cannon off the far post before being cleared.
Creaney added another goal to his tally on 88 courtesy of a powerful strike from the right channel which the keeper could only get a touch on as it flew into the top right corner (3-0, 88 mins)

A shot tipped away by Walton nearly saw Barwell get on the scoresheet in added time but it ended soon after and The Lambs progressed.
