Match Report

After Saturday’s home defeat to Leiston, The Lambs welcomed the Moors to The CR MOT Community Stadium for the Quarter Final of the Birmingham Senior Cup. Both sides made a number of changes to the sides that started at the weekend, and Liam Hearn was able to be named on the bench.

The Moors got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street end and in the second minute there was action at the other end when Hancox headed at Singh from a right wing cross to the far post.
Singh was called into action again on 4 from Wright’s looping deflected effort which forced the keeper into a high one handed stop. Tamworth took the lead on 7 though, when a threaded pass was met by Creaney on the edge of the area and his shot under Wycherley squirmed under and free of the advancing keeper and rolled into the back of the net. (1-0, 7 mins)
The Lambs extended their lead on 22 after another threaded ball through the Solihull defence found Obeng’s run and he was brought down in the box. Creaney stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to double his tally and the lead on the evening. (2-0, 22 mins)
Wilder netted his first goal in a Lambs shirt on 28, another threaded through ball split the visiting defence and Wilder took it round the keeper and rolled it home (3-0, 28 mins)
Creaney turned provider on 32 setting up Obeng with a close range finish which he fired into the net to make it 4-0.
Having not hit the back of the net previously for The Lambs, Wilder did it again on 36 with Creaney the provider once again sliding it through for Wilder to run on to and slot it past the keeper (5-0, 36 mins)
Wilder finished with aplomb from a delightful Forde ball on 42 (6-0, 42 mins) and then Obeng took the ball into the box and was brought down by the keeper for another penalty.
Obeng took sometime to recover from being brought down and Creaney stepped up to take the penalty in added time – and he smashed it over the bar, missing out on the side notching two separate first half hattricks, but undoubtedly giving a massive overall boost to the confidence of the squad, and it was only half time!!

HT: TAMWORTH 6 0 SOLIHULL MOORS

The Lambs restarted proceedings after Reid had replaced Obeng, and the Moors side worked hard to get the ball down and get into the final third with Hancox going closest early on with a close range header at Singh.
Creaney made way for Hearn on 55 and on 56 Blisset went through to go on one one with Singh, but the flag denied and Singh blocked his shot anyway.
Reid curled a driven shot against the face of the bar from 20 yards on 59 and at the other end from a corner Singh saved a close range header from Wright before Blissett missed the follow u, prodding the loose ball wide of the mark. Solihull forced another corner on 64 from a left wing cross that Rowe-Turner headed behind and Gough cleared a dangerous cross away from under the bar on 65. Vaughan connected well enough with a deep cross on 69 but his header cannoned back off the underside of the bar and denied the visitors a goal back. After a period of possession and pressure, Gudger glanced a header past Singh and inside the far post on 76 to reduce the arrears everso slightly (6-1, 76 mins) On 81 Carter raced int the box to finish the loose ball and pull another back to make it 6-2 and then in a ‘rare’ attack by The Lambs, Reid raced clear over the half way line and forced Wycherley to parry his left sided angled shot on 83. And the final whistle blew as the Lambs progressed to the next round of the cup, with the draw for the Semi Finals left to be played.
