Match Report

For the Staffordshire derby between The Lambs and The Pitmen, Tamworth made two changes, bringing Kyle Ambris into the eleven for his seasonal debut and switching Hoenes for James from the Saturday victory over Leiston.

50 weeks since the sides locked horns last, in the 2018-19 FA Cup, The Lambs got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street end and as if the sun wasn’t beating down on the ground enough, the visitors made things even brighter in their fluorescent yellow away kit.
A freekick on the right for Beswick caused some early defensive work for the Pitmen and a similar dead ball on 6 gave him another chance to stir things up but it was booted away.
After a positive Lambs start, Hednesford started to close the gaps a little more as the minutes ticked by. Under pressure from the visiting defence, Clement latched onto a ball into the right of the area and saw his shot deflect onto the base of the upright and out for a corner on 18.
A superb run from James on 19 down the right into the area saw him put a cross into the box but it was just too high for Creaney in the middle.
Bailey unleashed a long range effort which sailed high and wide of the mark on 23 before the referee called a drinks break for the players to refresh themselves.
Former Lamb Curley forced a corner on the right off Wilder and Griffiths header was straight at Singh. At the other end Clement pushed past his marker but dragged his shot just wide of the right hand post.
Good interplay between Waite and Clement on the left of the box on 30 ended with a high cross from the latter and Platt was not called into action.
Griffiths struck from 30 yards on 34 but failed to test Singh as Tamworth limited the Pitmen to half chances.
Clement set himself up in the area on 38 and forced Platt to throw himself at the ball to deny him a close range stabbed finish.
Beswick picked up a booking for deliberately handling the ball as he fell in the centre circle on 42.
A freekick was awarded against Griffiths for holding Clement and it set up Beswick from just outside the D on 45 but he struck it straight into the wall and the also the rebound. Rowe-Turner sliced a clearance out for a corner on the left in added time and it allowed the visitors to end the half with possession in the Lambs penalty area.

HT: TAMWORTH 0 0 HEDNESFORD TOWN

Hednesford restarted proceedings and immediately went on the attack.
Glover snuck through and Gough brought him down outside the area for a yellow card and a superb blocking tackle from Fry denied Glover’s powerful shot.
Wells picked up the next booking, for a tackle on Wilder as he advanced over the half way line on 50.
Glover directed a deep cross into the hands of Singh on 51 and Elliot was then booked for pulling Gough down on the halfway line.
After the first change of the game, Elliot struck left footed a Singh on 57 and the keeper caught it at head height.
Clement snuck through and crossed low into the six yard box on 59 but Waite was unable to lunge his boot at the chance and Glover flashed a shot high and wide on 62.
Obeng replaced James on 62, and on 63 a ball from Clement into the box had to be cleared off the toes of Creaney.
A deliberate handball by Elliot was punished only with a freekick which came to nothing, and a drinks break halted play necessarily on 70. Tamworth had to defend strongly from a right sided freekick on 76.
From a Hednesford attack on 78, Gough was adjudged to handle the ball as he slid in and a penalty was awarded which Hednesford sub Truslove dispatched past Singh. (0-1, 78 mins)
Tamworth made two changes in the final ten minutes to try and get something from the game with Hoenes and then Yafai entering the field of play.

Reid forced Singh to save a low shot with his feet on 89 and at the other end, Obeng was brought down for a Beswick freekick on the right of the area deep into added time but it curled agonisingly past the far post.
