Match Report

Dennis Greene’s first game in charge saw Royton Town visit the CR MOT Centre Community Stadium for the first time. New signing Charlie Jemson made his debut, while Jordan Clement made his home debut while Keegan Townrow and Stefan Moore took a place on the bench alongside Tristan Dunkley and Lewis Wright who had featured in the win at Lowestoft a fortnight previously.

Royston kicked the game off towards the Castle End and Singh had to deal with a deep freekick, but The Lambs countered and Lait threaded a pass to Asante who struck wildly off target.
After 4 minutes Waite received the ball in the D and spun and shot but he couldn’t get direction on it and it went well wide of the right hand post.
On 11, a freekick by Paul Green forced Royston to concede a freekick which caused problems for the visiting defence but the home side took the lead on 12 when a low ball to Castiglione on the edge of the box saw him take it past his man and slot it home under Singh (0-1).
But within 2 minutes The Lambs were level. Waite notched his fourth of the season with a confident finish from inside the right of the box after a good flick on from Asante. (1-1)
A great ball from the left from Lait, found the head of Waite on 24 but he couldn’t direct it into the net and cushioned it just wide of the post.
Beswick threaded the ball through to Waite on 27 and his shot from inside of the right of the box was well struck but rose over the target.
At the other end a whipped in goalbound shot from the left wing from Bola brought Singh into action to push it one handed over the target and from the corner Asante stole in, pushed forward and fed Lait down the left wing but Waite couldn’t connect with his cross-field ball into the box.
Asante forced a corner on the left after good work in the box on 37 but it came to nothing. As the half drew to a close, Finn made a strong run into the box and went down under a challenge but the referee waved the claim for a penalty away, and then Clement kept going under pressure and the man in the middle allowed play to continue, resulting in a low shot that was easy for Welch to gather.
Bola made headway into the box down the right on 45 and forced a corner with a low shot off Singh at the near post, and the corner was headed behind by Murray.
One minute added time was shown at the end of the half which ended without further incident.

HT: TAMWORTH 1 1 ROYSTON TOWN

Tamworth got the second half underway into the low dropping sun and Kristian Green went flying on 47, setting up Beswick with the deadball but Welch was equal to the high kick into the box.
Waite needed treatment after an awkward landing, and The Crows made a change and The Lambs did likewise shortly after.
A high floated cross into the box was almost met sweetly by Murray on 55 but his header glanced well side of the post and another foul on Lait just over the half way line set up substitute Wright from the dead ball but the flag halted play.
Wright forced a corner with a low cross that was put behind over the bar on 59 and nearly connected with the low set piece but the Royston defence got their first.
A measured pass from Asante found Waite on the left on the hour, but his shot was too powerful to trouble Welch and it rose over the target.
Royston forced a brace of corners on 64 and from the second Ellesley headed over from close range as he and teammate Martin went for the same ball.
Mentis picked up a booking for a pull back on Asante on 70 and a corner from the visitors fell onto the head of Murray on 73 but it was easy for Singh to take.
Singh pulled of a great stop on 77 though to deny a header from Corcoran, and in the next move the same player struck low for goal and it went under Singh and into the side netting on the left.

Tamworth made their second and third changes on 78 in a bid to get a winner, but Royston had a couple of half chances, with Singh parrying a direct shot from Gordon over the bar on 87 and from the dead ball Martin powerfully headed home at the back of the box through a crowd of players to give the visitors the lead (1-2)
Finn popped a shot on target but a deflection took it out off the bar after good work from Dunkley down right and Singh raced into the box but headed the corner wide of the mark.
The keeper came up for another on 94 but was unable to help his teammates as the final whistle blew.
