Match Report

The Lambs welcomed AFC Wulfrunians to The CR MOT Centre Community Stadium for the first meeting between the two clubs in the 1st Round Birmingham Senior Cup tie. Manager Dennis Greene was away watching the Lambs FA Trophy opponents

The visitors got the game underway and immediately pressed Jeynes goal at the Castle End causing no end of problems for the Lambs defence without really getting through to the keeper himself.
After five minutes Tamworth found their feet and started to push forwards.
Franco picked his spot on 8 but his shot curled wide of the left hand corner of bar and post and at the other end Dunkley chased down a bouncing ball but was unable to prod it past the advancing keeper.
A problem with one of the nets halted play on 10, for 5 minutes, and it resumed with Jeynes goalkick. Tamworth continued to push up field when they could but Jemson, Lait an Asante were all thwarted by a stubborn Wulfrunians defence.
On 37 Shaw had the first real chance of the game with a right footed drive from the edge of the area which keeper Bak was forced to parry and gather to keep the game goalless.
At the other end, on 43 Williams shot from 25 yards but curled his shot over the bar and there was some increased momentum in added time which earned The Lambs a corner but the visitors worked hard to clear the danger.
Deep into added time Clement dinked the ball through to Lait in the box and he pushed it under the dive of the keeper to make it 1-0 to The Lambs (1-0, 45+ mins)
Shortly after, Asante went through and keeper Bak clashed with him earning the Wulfrunians custodian a booking before the half time whistle blew.

HT: TAMWORTH 1 0 AFC WULFRUNIANS

Tamworth restarted proceedings attacking the Castle End and immediately forced a left sided corner but it came to nothing due to a foul in the ensuing play.
Lait made a strong run into the box on 51 and the ball rebounded to Asante who’s shot took a deflection and found Lait again but he was a few feet offside when he finished the chance so the scoreline and his tally didn’t double.
The visitors found some forward momentum of their own as the hour mark approached and forced a right sided corner on 58 which was played in and headed powerfully over the bar by Jevons.
On 64 Chaponda hit a good shot from distance but it went a few inches over the bar rather than under it. McDonald got himself into a good position on 69 but angled his shot from the left of the box over the far right corner of bar and post.
Paul Green was unable to prevent the ball going out for a corner on 71 and it was turned behind for a corner on the opposite side which was hit too long.
Verma replaced Asante on 73 as the visitors made a double change in personnel. Hayden ran through on a ball into the box on 78 but the keeper got a hand to it to prevent it from going past him before landing seemingly outside the box.
Clement then struck a powerful shot from 81 yards which forced Dax to make a very good one handed parry to deny him.
Verma cut the ball back for Clement to try a d shot from the edge of the box on 83 but he couldn’t get it on target, and then Verma himself fired wide of the mark after taking the ball down in the left of the box.
Jemson made a telling tackle to deny Wilson after he got the better of Townrow and at the other end Waite went through but failed to spot Hayden free and was denied by the keeper.
Tamworth doubled their lead as the clock ticked onto 91 when Clement ran through and chipped the keeper from fully 25 yards. (2-0)
