Match Report

Tamworth returned to The Lamb after failing to see off Alvechurch in midweek, looking for their first win of the new season at the third time of asking.
Tim Harris and Mike Fowler made four changes to the side that ran out on Tuesday evening with Paul Green, Wallis, Morris and Shaw all taking a place on the bench as Upton, Blaney, Lait and Wright all came into the starting eleven.
Tamworth got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street end in the first half, and a tackle on Linnets captain Clunan left him needed treatment and then Richards needed the attention of the magic sponge after a clonk on the head.
A sweeping cross from the left from Sharpe just evaded his teammates in the box and went for a goalkick on 8
A pair of long throws from Sharpe resulted in a corner on 10 which Finn dropped onto the head of Kettle past the far post but his downward header went into the ground and up and out. Hawkins turned Sharpe and drilled a cross from the right into the hands of Singh on 13.
Kettle’s ball down the right found Waite on 23 and Waite drilled it across the box but it took a deflection and went out for a throw on the left which Sharpe launched and Verma headed over from 6 yards under pressure.
Upton nodded the ball back to Singh on 28 under pressure from a Linnets attacker but it went past the keeper and he had to scamper back to prevent it going over the line with a slide and one handed stop.
Cluncan gave the visitors the lead on 30 with a rifled shot from the right of the box into the top right corner after Richards cross looking for Parker had not been dealt with and bounced invitingly for the Linnet’s captain. (0-1, 30 mins)
A low shot from Sharpe was dealt with by Street on 37 and Lait provided some ammunition with a floated left wing cross on 39 that forced a corner on the right.
There was intent from The Lambs from the flag kick but play petered out and the chance was lost.
A right wing cross from Hawkins was met past the far post by Hillard on 45 but he put the chance wide of the mark as three minutes added time was played out without further incident.

HT: TAMWORTH 0 1 KINGS LYNN TOWN

Paul Green replaced Sharpe before The Linnets restarted the game and on 46 Hawkins ran through with an eye on goal but totally screwed his shot wide of the target by some distance.
Hawkins burst into the box down the left on 54 and rolled the ball past Singh but thankfully also the far post and Hawkins set up Hilliard with a peach of a ball into the box but he somehow missed the target from a yard out on 55.
Lait’s low shot from the edge of the box took a deflection for a corner on the left on the hour but it was flicked behind for a goal kick.
Morris replaced Blaney on 65 and Dunkley replaced Waite five minutes later, taking his place up front.
A forward move on 79 resulted in Paul Green striking Kristian Green’s pull back on the half volley and it went wide of the right hand upright.
Hawkins squandered another chance to double the lead on 80, curling a low shot from 18 yards wide of the right hand post.
Wright then forced a corner on the left on 82 which was taken by Lait but headed wide of the near post by Kristian Green.
The Linnets whipped a left sided corner in on 85 and McAuley’s header was deflected over the bar for another which Hilliard tried to audaciously overhead kick it towards goal but it was blocked and cleared.
Morris picked up a booking for going in with studs raised on Thomas as five minutes added time was shown at the end of the game. Tamworth made a number of ‘final pushes’ as the minutes ticked down and Verma forced a corner with a snap shot in the box on 94 ad Singh went up front for the flagkick which was cleared and defended as the keeper ran back.

A freekick following a booking against Clunan for a foul on Lait resulted in the ball falling for Verma and his shot went high and wide as The Lambs failed again to win, making it 2 wins in 24 since New Years Day 2018.
